The Vision

Honaker has a rich history as an economic hub for the region combined with a strong cultural tradition and community spirit. The Economic Restructuring and Downtown Revitalization Plan is intended to address the need to create a new economic and physical life for the downtown commercial sector.

HDA approached this project with three objectives:

• Identify new strategies to rebuild the Town's economic base
• Revitalize the historic commercial sector and its aging infrastructure
• Create a compelling message to attract new people to visit or live in Honaker

After the unveiling and dedication of the new Downtown Mural on July 16, 2007, a Strategic Visioning session was held at the Honaker High School. Over 35 residents and stakeholders participated in the planning session. The draft Vision created that evening was finalized by a working group of the Management Team on the following morning. The session purpose was to build from Honaker's past accomplishments, to learn from its challenges, and to think creatively about new opportunities. The focus question for the session was:

Downtown Honaker is building a future with dining, shopping and gathering places for residents, a thriving environment for businesses and a vibrant destination for visitors.  To create this reality, we are revitalizing our unique historical assets, investing in technology to support 21st century jobs, and capitalizing on the beauty and accessibly of our natural environment. We are reinvigorating our local economy to better serve our people and to draw tourists from the region and beyond.
